Ok, so I’m watching CNN this morning and there is a news clip about “Gays in Advertising” and how people still aren’t ready for it. As an example, they used the Progressive Insurance commercial SEEN HERE (we’ve all seen this one a million times, to be sure) and stated people have a problem with this commercial (and a spokesperson for Progressive even said that they have received a few emails and complaints regarding this commercial) because they thought those two guys were gay…..
First of all, I am a pretty observant person….there isn’t much that gets by me, ok? But this??? It never once occurred to me that these guys were gay, seriously, not once. And I’m a woman, and as such I was born with what we call “Gaydar“, that is, the ability to tell gay men from straight men. I joke that God gave this ability to us women so we don’t waste our time trying to pro-create with a man who obviously doesn’t want to pro-create with us….but I digress…
Second of all…..Who cares if they ARE gay? I mean really people, are we that tight-assed that we can’t handle seeing two men or two women together in a COMMERCIAL? It’s ok to see them kiss during primetime, but it’s not ok to see them in TV ads?? Is that ridiculous, or is it just me? If there is one thing we ALL know, it’s this; love is so HARD to find….so can’t we be happy for someone when they are lucky enough to find it, REGARDLESS?
